Maui is the second-largest of the Hawaiian Islands and is known for its stunning beaches, lush rainforests, and Haleakala National Park. If you’re planning a trip to Maui, here are 10 things you need to know:

  1. The weather is warm year-round but may include rain. Maui has a tropical climate with average temperatures ranging from 75 to 85 degrees Fahrenheit. The best time to visit is during the shoulder seasons (April-May and September-October), when the crowds are smaller and the prices are lower. The shoulder seasons are more likely to have rain in the forecast, but the weather is still warm. Pack accordingly!
  2. There are plenty of things to do. Maui is a great place to relax on the beach, go hiking, or explore the island’s many attractions. Some of the most popular activities include snorkeling, scuba diving, whale watching, and visiting Haleakala National Park. Whale watching season is November-May.
  3. Maui is expensive. Accommodation, food, and activities can all be expensive on Maui. If you’re on a budget, consider making meals/drinks on your own. Most supermarkets sell liquor as well.
  4. The island is bigger than you think. Maui is a larger island than most realize. If you’re staying in Ka’anapali or Kapalua be prepared for a 40 minute drive from the airport. If you’re planning on driving the road to Hana, be prepared for an all day adventure. Especially if staying in Ka’anapali or Kapalua areas.
  5. The locals are friendly. The people of Maui are known for their friendly and welcoming attitude. Be sure to say hello to the locals and you’ll likely make some new friends.
  6. There are many different types of accommodation. There are a variety of accommodation options on Maui, from luxury resorts to budget-friendly hostels. Choose the option that best suits your needs and budget. The Kapalua and Wailea areas are very upscale where Ka’anapali is best for the majority of visitors.
  7. The food is delicious. Maui is home to a variety of restaurants serving everything from Hawaiian cuisine to international fare. Be sure to try some of the local specialties, such as kalua pork and poi.
  8. The beaches are beautiful. Maui is home to some of the most beautiful beaches in the world. Spend your days swimming, sunbathing, and enjoying the warm weather.
